The production of oil is a multi-billion dollar industry that affects the world on many different levels including environmental and economic, and these affects could be considered either positive or negative. Although there are many products of oil that people rely on every day, oil drilling has long been a controversial topic. Oil spills that endanger wild life and create pollution, and wars fought over lands that contain oil have been just a few of the damaging concerns that become heavily debated when the subject of oil is tackled. The upsides to these debates are the money it generates, the employment opportunities, and the products created using oil such as, gasoline, concrete, plastic, and even some clothes we wear. Naikan Therapy The man responsible for the development of Naikan Therapy is Mr. Ishin Yoshimoto. Mr. Yoshimoto developed Naikan therapy as a short term structural treatment that is useful in treating marital and familial conflicts, interpersonal relationship issues, depression and anxiety, self-esteem issues, behavioral disorders, and addictive behaviors (Ramaswami Sheikh, 1989, p. 106). Nakian translates to mean to look within ones self. The purpose of Naikan therapy is to increase awareness of oneself as well as acceptance without becoming judgmental (Walsh, 1989). Naikan therapy was developed in the 1950s with its roots being maintained in Buddhist philosophy and practice. Before one might explain how race and ethnicity are affected by stratification. You first have to understand race and ethnicity in its self. Many people including me before I took this class thought they were the same thing. Racial groups are a group that is socially set apart because of obvious physical differences. An example of this is I come from Somalia but in the United States my race would be defined as black or African American. Ethnicity or ethnic groups are groups set apart from others because of its national origin or distinctive cultural patterns. An example of this is although my race is defined as black or African American my ethnicity is Somali. Race is a socially constructed concept. There is no biological meaning behind it. Race was constructed to give power and resources to a certain group of people, which are called the dominant group and majority group. The minority group on the other hand is a subordinate group whose members have significantly less control or p ower over their own lives. Minority statues is not due to being out numbered but rather having significantly less life opportunities for success, education, wealth, and the pursuit of happiness. Each society has its own arbitrary standard for determining which characteristics are most important in defining dominant and minority groups. In the United States whites are the majority and dominant group. Further, only the income that is received by taxpayer from Australian sources could contribute to the taxable income when the taxpayer is a foreign resident as per the provisions of section 6-5(3), ITAA 1997. In case of foreign resident, the income which the taxpayerhas received for deriving from investment or employment in other countries rather than Australia would not be liable for taxation (Barkoczy, 2017). It is apparent from the above that taxation treatment for the income received by taxpayer is mainly a function of tax residency position of taxpayer. Hence, Tax Ruling TR 98/17 along with section 6 (1) of ITAA, 1936 are taken into account to determine the various aspects related to tax residency of taxpayer. In TR 98/17 there are four major tests along with the pre-requisite conditions that must satiate by taxpayer to classify as resident of Australia for tax purposes. It is noteworthy, that the taxpayer who passes at least one test would pass the criteria of residency tests and thus, designated as Australia tax resident (Woellner, 2015). This test can not apply for a taxpayer who is not working for Australian government.
